Master Harold and the Boys by Athol Fugard runs from July C Co-founded in 1979 by Geoff Richon, Denny Blodgett, and award winning playwright Israel Horovitz, Gloucester Stage Company is one of the pre-eminent small, professional, not- for-profit theater companies in New England. Starting with early productions at historic Blackburn Tavern and continuing with its 1987 relocation overlooking beautiful Smith Cove at 267 East Main Street, this little theater has a big reputation for creating works that have gone on to enjoy critical acclaim both on Broadway and around the world. Now in its 33rd year and under the leadership of General Manager Andrew Burgreen and Artistic Director Eric Engel; this 190 seat auditorium is regularly transformed by such world class playwrights and performers as Oscar nominated actress Lindsay Crouse, Broadway veterans Jill Clayburgh, Nancy E. Carroll and Sandra Shipley, and Boston Favorites Steven Barkhimer, Richard Snee and Paula Plum. The 2012 season promises to be one of the best, beginning with Round and Round the Garden by Alan Ayckbourn, June 14 through July 1. This completes the staging of the entire "Norman Conquest" trilogy which delighted critics and audiences for the last two summers. Local favorite Paula Plum will join returning cast members Lindsay Crouse, Richard Snee, Steven Barkhimer, Sarah Newhouse and Barlow Adamson. Next is Carnival! by Michael Stewart and Bob Merrill, July 5 through July 22. A musical gem, this love story takes place behind the scenes of the once Grand Imperial Cirque de Paris 25 through August 12. Set in the oppressive apartheid system of South Africa, lifelong friendships between a privileged white teenager and two black servants are put to a sometimes hilari- ous sometimes heartbreaking test. Featuring Elliot Norton Award winner, Johnny Lee Davenport. Nine Circles by Bill Cain follows, August 16 through August 26. A raw, emotionally charged quest for salvation set against the backdrop of horrific crimes. A critically acclaimed produc- tion; originally staged by Engel for Boston's Publick Theater and winner of the prestigious Harold and "Mimi" Steinberg Playwright Award. Contains mature subject matter. The 2012 Season concludes with Crimes of the Heart by Beth Henley, August 30 through September 16. Carmel O'Reilly directs the Pulitzer Prize winning comic drama and the season's final offering. Join the iconic high strung southern sisters Meg, Babe, and Lenny as they confront the loss of their mother and the secrets they have harbored.
