Arts & Culture Artistsof Cape Ann VISUAL ARTISTS THRIVE IN CAPE ANN'S PROLIFIC ARTS COMMUNITY Ken Knowles If you're lucky enough to stumble into Ken Knowles' studio in Rockport simply because you saw his sign on Main Street, you're in for a treat. First, if you visit in warm weather, you'll enjoy Ken's colorful flower garden outside his studio. Once inside you'll find an award winning collection of oil paintings and pencil work. Ken's collection includes street and marine scenes from Cape Ann and New England, all influenced by American Impressionism. One painting, Late Light in Essex, depicts a country road basking in warm shades of gold, orange and brown, courtesy of the setting sun. While the viewer cannot see the sun setting, Ken's masterful use of light and shadows tells the viewer that the sun is indeed setting, just out of sight. "Visitors can enjoy the garden and have the opportunity to purchase my original paintings," said Ken. "My studio and garden provide an authentic New England experience. I also like to think that many of my paintings will evoke an authentic feeling or reaction, and then I know I've done my job." Ken Knowles sells original paintings only. His previous works are part of countless private collections in the U.S. and abroad. When you visit, ask Ken about his residential murals and commissioned paintings. For more information, visit Ken Knowles Fine Art gallery at 102 Main Street, Rockport. Call 508-284-0427 or visit online at www.kenknowlesfineart.com. Arlene F. Taliadoros Arlene F.
