ROCKY NECK AND ROCKPORT L 18 Located off East Main Street in Gloucester, Rocky Neck Art Colony, one of the oldest continually operating art colonies in America and part of a newly designated Massachusetts Cultural District, is a gem not to be missed on your visit to Cape Ann. Surrounded by picturesque Smith Cove, Wonson Cove, and Gloucester Harbor, the peninsula is home to dozens of galleries, shops, restaurants, accommoda- tions and lively night spots, and is a destination with something for everyone. Two walking tours, the Rocky Neck Historic Art Trail and the self-guided Walking Tour, available on the Art Colony's website, www.rockyneckartcolony.org, and at the Rocky Neck public parking lot, will introduce visitors to twelve locations where renowned American artists of the 19th and 20th centuries lived and worked, and to current member galleries and businesses. Whether you preference is plein air or abstract, oils, acrylics, watercolors, photography, or pottery, it's all here. Stop to enjoy the view while enjoying a scrumptious meal or perhaps simply a margarita or an ice cream!
